Today when I saw these daffodils poking there way through the ground I was reminded that although we still have a couple of months of winter still to go, the anticipation of hope and new life is there too.

Part of our return journey was through blizzard conditions, so I was stunned to see this runner out putting in his miles!  Still can't decide if he was caught out by the unexpected turn in the weather, all I know is that I was glad I was in the car and felt sorry for him when I saw the track he was about to run along.   But I also kind of wish I had his dedication/determination.

Our late afternoon walk took us by the Banchory Lodge.  From the smoke coming from the chimney we knew the fire in the lounge was burning, what we wondered was if this fallen tree was supplying the fuel.

The church is floodlit during the Christmas season.  A reminder to the community that the church is not only a living and used building, but also that we are about to celebrate something big!  A visible reminder too to those who are part of the church that our message is about light where there is darkness.

In between preparing the services for this weekend I've been sorting out the Christmas cards.  I was speaking to someone at Bellfield Care Home last night who was saying how much it meant to her that people from the church remembered her at this time of the year - taking the time to write and add a few extra words wishing her well.   Somehow there's nothing quite like getting a handwritten card to make you feel special.

We were at the Echt Tandoori tonight for a meal with our daughter who will be going away for Christmas - so this was our last chance to see her before the New Year.   Having had several Turkey dinners so far in this past week we decided to make the next one on Christmas Day itself, hence the brilliant Indian meal tonight.

There are times when you go to visit someone in hospital and you can't move for people, there are other times when it's eerily quiet.  

Loving God ... We pray for those afflicted in body - enduring physical pain, overwhelmed by their condition, waiting for an operation or further treatment and fearful of what the future may hold.  Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
